A little bit About Us
JZT Pakistan, or Jehaad For Zero Thalassemia, is a non-profit volunteer organization led by current and former students from esteemed Pakistani institutions. Its mission is to raise awareness, particularly among university students and the general public, about the devastating blood disorder, Thalassemia, which afflicts many individuals from an early age due to parental unawareness.
Thalassemia is a hereditary condition passed on when both parents, seemingly healthy, carry the Thalassemia minor trait. JZT Pakistan’s objective is to educate prospective couples about the importance of pre-marital Thalassemia Minor screening. This precaution ensures they are not carriers of Thalassemia Minor, reducing the risk of their future children developing Thalassemia Major. Thalassemia Major necessitates costly treatments, including regular blood transfusions every two weeks or expensive bone marrow transplant surgery.
JZT Pakistan aspires to create a Thalassemia-free Pakistan by enlightening individuals and promoting proactive screening, sparing families the anguish and financial strain associated with this condition.
